DEDEAT is dedicated to uplifting disadvantaged communities within the Eastern Cape Province, and we believe that education is the key to positive change. As such, we are offering bursaries to students pursuing or intending to pursue studies in academic courses related to Economic Development and Environmental Management during the 2024 academic year.

About the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development: DEDEAT plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and development within the province. We oversee various provincial-owned entities, actively participating in initiatives like the auto cluster and the Wild Coast Development. Our commitment to creating a better Eastern Cape is at the core of our mission.

What fields of study are eligible for the 2024 academic year under this bursary program, and what are the qualification requirements for each focus area?

We have earmarked specific areas of focus for our bursary programme:

  • Economic Development: Supporting studies in Consumer Studies, Business Law, Energy Studies, Manufacturing, Agricultural Sector Development, Urban Planning, Industrial Engineering, and Statistics.
  • Environmental Affairs: Offering opportunities in fields like Pollution and Waste Management, Environmental Research and Policy Development, Environmental Management, Biodiversity, Coastal or Marine Management, and Climate Change, with degrees like BSc in Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry, Marine Biology, and more.

Who is eligible to apply for the DEDEAT Bursary Programme, and what specific requirements do applicants need to meet?

To qualify for this exciting opportunity, you must meet these criteria:

  • You must be from the Eastern Cape Province.
  • Application documentation must include completed bursary application forms, an acceptance letter, certified copies of your ID, Grade 12 results or progress reports, proof of parents or guardian’s salary (or an affidavit if they are not working), proof of address, an affidavit to confirm Eastern Cape residency, and an acceptance letter from your chosen institution.
  • First preference will be given to applicants without post-matric qualifications who have not previously received a bursary from DEDEAT and have passed all relevant subjects.
  • Second-year applicants must provide their first-year results.
