How to apply for Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) Bursary 2024

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is extending a lifeline to South African students by introducing their Bursary Programme for the academic year 2023/2024. This initiative aims to support and empower Grade 12 learners who aspire to venture into the water and sanitation field, offering them the opportunity to further their education and make a meaningful contribution to this crucial sector.

With an application window open for five months, from July 1 to November 30, 2023, the program prioritizes students with exceptional academic achievements, a genuine financial need, and the relevant skills that align with the industry’s demands. Through this bursary program, the DWS not only provides financial support but also offers invaluable workplace exposure and training, ensuring that bursars are well-prepared to become certified professionals in their respective fields.

About the DWS Bursary Programme:

The Department of Water and Sanitation provides comprehensive bursaries for the academic year 2024. These bursaries are targeted at Grade 12 learners who plan to study in the water and sanitation field. The selected bursars will have the opportunity to gain relevant workplace exposure and additional training during their employment contracts until they are prepared to register as professionals with their respective professional bodies.

For the academic year 2024, the department will only consider applications from 1st-year students pursuing the following qualifications:

  • BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering

  • BSc in Environmental Management

  • BSc (Hons) in Hydrology

  • National Diploma/BEng Tech in Civil Engineering

Please Note:
